SEMICON Taiwan took place this week in Taipei. ASE was represented by Corporate R&D's Ho-Ming Tong and CP Hung who respectively chaired and co-chaired the Packaging and Testing Technology Forum. The event was well-attended, and the central theme -- Packaging Renaissance & State-of-the-Art Technology Integration Trends -- garnered much interest.
When asked about the "packaging renaissance", Homing Tong replied:
"In my opinion, the packaging renaissance started in 2002 or even earlier, and it still continues. Using system-in-package (SiP) technology to offer customized packages, the industry found many new business opportunities in three major areas: Communications, consumer electronics and car electronics. This is why, when asked what does the packaging renaissance mean for me, I usually say that the most laconic answer: It is SiP."
